To grow Early Golden Bantam Sweet Corn, follow these instructions:
Planting:
- Choose a sunny spot in your garden with well-drained soil.
- Amend the soil with compost or manure before planting.
- Sow the seeds directly in the ground, about 1 inch deep and 4-6 inches apart.
- Water the seeds regularly and keep the soil moist until they germinate.
- Once the seedlings emerge, thin them to 12-18 inches apart.
Care:
- Fertilize the plants every 2-3 weeks with a balanced fertilizer.
- Water the plants regularly, especially during hot weather.
- Mulch around the plants to help retain moisture and suppress weeds.
Harvesting:
- Early Golden Bantam Sweet Corn is ready to harvest when the kernels are plump and milky and the silks are brown and dry. To harvest, simply snap the ears off the stalks.
Tips:
- For the best flavor, harvest and eat Early Golden Bantam Sweet Corn immediately after picking.
- If you are unable to eat the corn right away, store it in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
- Early Golden Bantam Sweet Corn is a great variety to grow for freezing. To freeze the corn, simply shuck the ears and cut the kernels off the cob. Blanche the kernels in boiling water for 2 minutes, then drain and plunge them into ice water to stop the cooking process. Once the kernels are cool, pack them into freezer bags or containers and freeze for up to 1 year.
